Is this programme right for you?

This programme is right for you if you are an aspiring or existing L&D Manager, Business Partner or an existing L&D practitioner wishing to extend your skills.With this programme you can choose to use your current or past employer as the basis for your study or our unique immersive case study environment (DPG are the only CIPD Centre that offers this), so you get to practice risk free in a virtual online company. There are no entry requirements for this programme, however you will need 2-4 years’ experience. This programme is suitable for you if you’ve not been in a learning environment for a while, because you get all the support you need along the way to guarantee you’re successful. Your Learning Options; Blended (Workshops and online). Choose a blend of online modules, which you access at your leisure, combined with 3-5 interactive full day workshops. You can complete the certificate in as little as 7 months and the diploma in as little as 9. You have up to 24 months to fully complete your programme. Competency Based; If you’re already working in an L&D role and have a full understanding and experience in L&D, but do not hold a formal L&D qualification, the competency based route could suit you. On this route you have an initial assessment and then a personalised study programme is created for you, so you can achieve your CIPD qualification and get CIPD Associate membership through your usual work activities. This route is designed to be completed in your own time and at your own pace, without you having to attend any workshops. What do you cover on the programme?

The programme covers all the typical aspects of an L&D practitioner role, each of which is a specific CIPD unit. These include:

  • Developing Professional Practice in Learning and Development – In this unit you will familiarise yourself with the current trends and practices in L&D to help you develop a comprehensive understanding of the core knowledge, skills and behaviours required by L&D professionals.
  • Understanding the Context of Learning and Development – In this unit, you’ll explore and analyse a range of factors which influence L&D policy and form the context of learning and development practice.
  • Using Information, Metrics and Developing Business cases for L&D – In this unit, you’ll examine how research can improve understanding, aid decision- making and provide the basis for change in L&D practice in particular.
  • Understanding Organisational Development – In this unit you’ll explore and analyse the concept of organisational development (OD) by looking at the relationship of OD with learning and development (L&D).
  • Managing the Learning and Development Business Function – In this unit you’ll further develop your understanding of the key purpose and objectives of the learning and development function in contemporary organisations.
  • Developing and Using Consultancy Skills (Diploma Only) – In this unit, you’ll further develop your understanding of the nature of consultancy, different consultancy roles and the key stages in the consultancy process.
  • Designing and Developing Digital and Blended Learning Solutions (Diploma Only) – On this unit you discuss and develop the knowledge and skills you need to take advantage of the opportunities technology provides in making learning that is more flexible, accessible and scaleable.

What are your options after this programme?

Once you’ve passed all your CIPD units and received your certificate, you are able to use the letters Assoc CIPD after your name, giving you professional recognition from the CIPD, which is valued by employers globally. If you want to further your knowledge of L&D or are looking to progress your career and improve your earning potential, your next step is to progress to the CIPD Level 7 Certificate/Diploma in HR Development qualification. DPG offer this as a blended programme, which you can complete in 24 months. The Level 7 programme can be started immediately after you’ve finished your Level 5 programme and explores L&D at a deeper level, so you are ready to work at a strategic L&D level.
