CIPD Learner Stories: Sam Eggleston

HR Generalist

In Short

I wanted to broaden my experience with a generalist HR role. So, becoming CIPD qualified made perfect sense as I could develop my knowledge and increase my employment opportunities. Within 3 months I had secured a temporary position which turned into permanent employment as an HR Generalist. Since then I have gained a promotion.

Why did you choose DPG?

I chose DPG because of the flexible learning available, which allowed me to study around family and work life. As I live outside the UK, only traveling to a workshop once a month also meant it was cost effective too.

What were your goals of starting the programme?

To become CIPD Level 5 HR qualified and gain full time employment. I had been self-employed for 8 years since having children and my background was in training, development and recruitment. I wanted to broaden my experience with a generalist HR role. So, becoming CIPD qualified made perfect sense as I could develop my knowledge and increase my employment opportunities.

How did the programme help your career and where are you now?

The programme totally allowed me to meet my goals. Within 3 months I had secured a temporary position which turned into permanent employment as a HR Generalist. Since then I have gained a promotion and moved into Organisational Development.

What you would say to anyone thinking of doing a programme with DPG?

Definitely take the opportunity, I had a great supportive tutor and lovely people on the course with me. It helped me with my aspirations so can do the same for them.
