The CIPD Advanced Level 7 programme has given me the understanding of why we do what we do in HR and the added value we should be striving to achieve and demonstrate for all managers and employees.

Why did you choose DPG?

I was lucky enough to be sponsored by my employer as part of our CPD programme and whilst looking for the right provider I came across DPG and it was the flexibility in their delivery of the programme that struck me. I work full time at Thurrock Council and have fantastic support from them so am able to balance study requirements alongside my day to day role.

How does it feel to be shortlisted for the Michael Kelly Award at the People Management Awards? 

Very exciting! When I discussed entering for the award with my boss I was well aware that the competition would be of a high standard, so I feel lucky to have been shortlisted. The presentation element was daunting, however a fantastic experience to present to such an esteemed panel of judges.

What would winning mean to you? 

It would be a really proud moment for me, I am lucky in that I love my job so to win an award and be recognised for the work that I do would be a fantastic achievement, both on a personal and professional level. Whatever the outcome, I’m sure it will be a great evening, with the opportunity to celebrate successes and meet HR colleagues from across the public and private sector.

What were your goals of starting the programme? 

I’ve worked my way up in the HR field, originally starting out as the PA to Head of HR & OD, so all the HR knowledge I have was learned on the job and from my senior colleagues. It was always the goal of the programme that my existing knowledge would be strengthened and developed further, learning the theory behind our HR activity.

Did the programme help and where are you now? 

It has given me the understanding of why we do what we do in HR and the added value we that we should be striving to achieve and demonstrate for all managers and employees. I’m still in my first year of study so there is plenty of work to go but I am excited for the challenge!

What would you say to anyone thinking of doing a programme with DPG? 

Be prepared for a lot of hard work, however the rewards far outweigh the additional time pressures on life! My course tutor Louise has been fantastic and it has been great to have met such a friendly and knowledgeable group of people whilst on my course.
