CIPD Learner Stories: Angela Moore

Senior Manager at Metropolitan Police Service

In Short

The CIPD Level 5 HR Management Online course has given me the confidence and overview to manage fluent situations and individuals at such challenging times of change. DPG were flexible and helped me with managing my time if I had busier periods at work. A few colleagues within my organisation have commented on how enthusiastic and confident I appear during this year of my learning.

Why did you choose DPG?

After completing a Certificate in Personal Practice, some 14 years earlier, I decided to search the web for HR related courses and soon identified DPG offering HR Certificates and Diplomas. Not only was DPG very competitively priced, but for me the main reason for choosing DPG was I could learn in my own time, in the comfort of my home or office. I was able to attend online webinars, access DPG forums, resources and allocated tutor easily. As a full time working mum of an infant, this course had to fit in with my busy life. DPG offered this. After consideration, and also after finding out the fees could be spread across a number of months, I was SOLD!

What were my goals of starting the programme?

After 25 years in same organisation and 3 successful promotions, my qualifications did not reflect the experience that I gained as an Area Service Delivery Manager. My goal and intention of completing the programme was to gain a recognised CIPD qualification to support me. As I had not studied for some time, I opted for the CIPD Level 5 HR Certificate, but decided to push myself and upgrade to the Level 5 HR Diploma.

DPG were flexible and helped me with managing my time if I had busier periods at work, so I could complete my learning and assignments in good time. The online webinars encouraged group participation and they were all recorded which was particularly useful.

How did the programme help?

The DPG course has given me the confidence and overview to manage fluent situations and individuals at such challenging times of change. In my experience, change breeds challenges. Sometimes managers can experience hostilities and grievances from staff resisting such changes. The CIPD Level 5 HR Management online course really explores employer/employee perceptions, expectations, behaviours and issues in the workplace. By increasing my current HR knowledge and legislation, this will aid me with reducing and preventing issues, but also to support and manage staff whom are experiencing issues within the workplace.

What would you say to anyone thinking of doing a programme with DPG?

A few colleagues within my organisation have commented on how enthusiastic and confident I appear during this year of my learning. The CIPD Level 5 HR Management course has taught me that you’re never too old to develop your knowledge and skills. DPG are definitely an excellent springboard to enhance your mind set, values, qualifications and career. I have already recommended them to at least 3 colleagues!
