FAQs

Who is this apprenticeship for?

This apprenticeship can be used to upskill existing employees working within your HR department, or to develop new employees such as graduates looking to build a career in HR. This apprenticeship enables employees to develop their skills, take on more responsibility in people management and broaden their HR knowledge.

Apprentices at this level work across a range of HR areas and lead on the delivery of HR solutions to their business challenges. They could work in a generalist role, or focus on and deliver, in-depth experience in a specialist area, such as Resourcing, Total Reward, Organisation Development or HR Operations.

What does this apprenticeship cover?

This apprenticeship covers the following modules:

Developing Professional Practice

Enables the apprentice to develop a sound understanding of the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by HR professionals working at this level. Apprentices self-assess against these standards to create their development plan and achieve the desired result.

Business Issues and the Context of HR

The apprentice examines HR’s role in business strategy formulation and implementation, and explores in-depth how HR contributes to the strategy.

Using Information in HR

The apprentice identifies the data available to HR and examines how they can use this data to influence change. The apprentice then develops the skills they need to present business cases for HR improvements.

Resourcing & Talent Planning

Introduces the key operational tools, techniques and practices used to resource organisations effectively. This includes recruitment and selection, workforce planning, staff retention, succession planning, retirement and dismissal processes.

Reward Management

Provides the apprentice with a wide understanding of how the business context drives the different reward strategies and policies, so they can present and implement the most effective solution for their organisation.

Contemporary Developments in Employment Relations

Builds on the apprentice’s knowledge and experience to develop the skills required to make informed and effective employment relations judgements

Managing & Co-ordinating the HR Function

Introduces the apprentice to the key roles of HR in a business and how HR can be structured and developed to deliver these for the business.

Employment Law

The apprentice explores the major areas of employment legislation and the employment law system, including ways in which day-to-day HR activities are subjected to regulation.

Developing & Using Consultancy Skills

Apprentices develop their understanding of the nature of consultancy and related concepts, different consultancy roles and the key stages in the consulting process. They explore the skills and techniques required to be effective in an HR consultant role, so they can work with the business to address an HR business need and agree a solution through to evaluation and closure. At the end, they are able to confidently provide customised HR solutions to meet the needs of different business clients.

Recommending Business Improvement through HR Practice

Teaches the apprentice to understand and analyse the concept of organisational development and how it contributes to major organisational change. They develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to function effectively as an Organisational Development practitioner within HR, which enables them to undertake the work-related project required for the End Point Assessment.

Preparation for End Assessment

The apprentice receives individual personal support to ensure their readiness for End Point Assessment. The final two learning modules, as listed above, help the apprentice hone the key skills they need to undertake the End Point successfully.

What will the apprentice learn?

Apprentices on this programme develop the skills and behaviours to work across all elements of HR. Through our blend of eLearning, workshops and our unique Business District, apprentices are required to make decisions and recommendations on what HR needs to do, as well as apply best practice and instigate change for the benefit of the entire organisation.

Are there any specific requirements to join this apprenticeship?

Ideally, your apprentice will work in HR or in a role in which HR is a key element, so they can work on real business scenarios to bring about change whilst they complete the apprenticeship. In a larger organisation, the apprentice may be one of a team supporting the business and they may also have responsibility for managing people.

Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve these functional skills prior to completion of their Apprenticeship. We can provide support for this within the programme using our network of skills practitioners.

How does the apprenticeship work?

  1. Apprentices will learn through a combination of scenario training, and immersive real-life simulations with DPG’s unique virtual business district.
  2. On completion, apprentices will receive the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Level 5 Qualification in Human Resource Management as well as Associate Membership of the institute. CIPD membership fee is an additional payment to the CIPD.
  3. Apprentices receive support from experienced facilitators, their own Training Development Officer and 24/7 access to learning. You also receive access to the bespoke OneFile system, the leading e-portfolio system for managing and monitoring your apprentices’ progress. You’ll also receive regular employer progress reports and reviews.
